The fantastic Nova Ren Suma, author of Imaginary Girls (Dutton), asked me to join a bunch of authors blogging on books that scare us. My favorite topic! One of them anyway (don't get me started on scary movies unless you have lots of time ...). I chose Rosemary's Baby, a classic for good reason.
This book is one that I would teach if I taught writing. For real! Levin is brilliant in this novel. Nothing that the reader doesn't need to know is included, and every clue that leads to the conclusion is right there, if you know where to look. Check out what I had to say here. And then comment! That movie was so freaky! I've been meaning to read the book for years. Don't know why I haven't yet, probably because I would get freaked out, obviously.
ReplyDeleteIt's so good. Really a gorgeous piece of writing, in terms of structure and detail and putting every piece in just the right place. And an enjoyable read, too -- you just fly through it. Read it!
