There is no blogging fairy.

Even when your sinuses are attacking and you're bundled under the covers with tea and bad daytime TV. Meaning, I missed blogging yesterday. Demerits noted.

At the Chester County Books signing on Nov. 1, someone asked about my favorite recent YA books. Of course, I blanked, which happens to me pretty often. And then @Vi3tl3abe reminded me to blog about it (did you ask the original question? I can't remember), and so I am.

I came back to reading YA after a few years away around the time that Laurie Halse Anderson's Speak came out, and I was hooked (again).

Here's a (partial) list of some absolute favorites over the last few years:

Sweet Blood, Pete Hautman

A Great and Terrible Beauty, Libba Bray (and the following two books in the trilogy)

Wicked Lovely, Melissa Marr (and the rest of the series!)

The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins (and of course the two books to follow)

How I Live Now, Meg Rosoff

Thirteen Reasons Why, Jay Asher

The Replacement, Brenna Yovanoff

There are more (all veering between wildly realistic and gritty fantasy), but those are the big standouts. Ask me about any of them, and I'll respond in comments.

Next time, YA favorites from the mists of time, and why they're still worth reading.

* Also, if someone can tell me where tagging went on Blogger, I will send you (virtual) cookies.

  1. Aww, thanks for mentioning me and no, I didn't ask the question but so happy I reminded you to write about it! ^_^

I LOVED Wicked Lovely, so amazing, I have to read the rest of the books though haha. Hunger Games is awesome, of course. I've been hearing good things about A Great & Terrible Beauty, must check that out.
